Tye Oak Farm
Project
Tye Oak Farm is a historic farmstead located at the north-east edge of the village of East Harting.
Formed by a large group of agricultural buildings that date mainly from the 19th century, and which are connected to a Georgian Farmhouse, the buildings incorporate parts of earlier farm buildings from a group which is known to have existed since at least the 18th century.
The site lies within the boundaries of the South Downs National Park and the East Harting Conservation Area.
The historic farmstead was dominated by a number of large modern agricultural buildings which were prominent in the landscape and the setting of the Listed farmhouse and Conservation Area.
The historic buildings had fallen out of use and in to a state of disrepair with some suffering significant structural deterioration.
The project set about removing the modern farm buildings and converting the historic buildings to provide a single residence.
This includes the construction of replacement ranges built to reinstate lost elements but incorporating historic fabric, including an early flint wall, and the construction of a contemporary glass link to connect the ranges and allow the buildings to function as a single dwelling.
The project was designed by Manorwood who also undertook research on the property and provided heritage advice.
The works were carried out by numerous local contractors under the project supervision of John Langdon of Heritage Oak.
