Sollers is a late medieval building located on the northern edge of Fernhurst’s Green.
The building was originally an open hall house subsequently altered and extended from the 16th century onwards including a large arts and crafts extension.
The owner wanted to provide a larger kitchen and family space but wanted to ensure it respected the historic character of the building and did not dominate or detract.
Working closely with the Local Authorities’ Conservation Officer a scheme was developed that adopted a contemporary approach which was clearly a modern intervention and allowed for the original building to remain legible.
The project was designed by Alistair Riley Architects Ltd with Manorwood undertaking planning consultancy and heritage advice.
